Crew List for the Tahiti Race
What follows is a list of folks that have indicated that they are available and interested in crewing for the 2008 Transpacific Yacht Race to Tahiti. They are listed in no particular order. If you are interested in crewing or need crew use the HTML Form to provide us with some information on your experience or yacht.

Because of issues with Span Bots we no longer automatically post crew list requests. When you fill out the form it is emailed to us and we enter that information on these pages if it is a valid posting. This is normally done within twenty four hours.

Please email us at the WEB address ( Transpac WEB Folks) if you found a ride, found crew or just want your positing removed. It will help keep the page current.

Also check out the:

Return Crew page

We have activated these lists for the 2008 Tahiti Race. The list for the 2009 Honolulu Race will be available in August 2008.

Hi Everyone(Skippers or Owners),

I hope that positing my profile here will get me to crew on someone’s boat in this amazing race.

It will be a great opportunity for me to crew for any boats participating in TRANSPAC 2008 to Tahiti and a great experience for you too to have a wonderful crew that is willing to do her part and to share the sailing/racing experiences together. I believe that we are going to have a great joy racing there (we race to win and of course we will get there safely).

I am 26 female, 5 foot one and weighs about 110 pounds in great shape, with good eye sight and passed the Seafarer’s Medical Exam (received all vaccinations needed for Commercial Seafarer).

My favourite sports besides sailing that help me build my strenght and stamina: White-water rafting, Swimming, Badminton, Horse Riding, Abseiling and Yoga.

My personality is easy-going, fun to be around, helpful (people call me a “very kind and considerate” person), athletic, active, enthusiastic and I can stay calm and be aware of what’s going on around me (never panic when I have to handle unexpected situations). My profession is a business consultant and business coach. I also have my own fair trade design clothing/jewelry line that supports fair trade community around the world.

Besides what I love in Arts and Business, I take sailing and racing seriously and that’s what I want to be because I want to enjoy it for the rest of my life. I take Yacht Design/Engineering course because I’m very determined to have my own business in yacht management and yacht design. On the racing boats, I enjoy doing every position if I need to, flexible in that sense.

For tactician/navigating position and radio operating position, I request to have 2 months to prepare for all information needed for each race and will be well prepared and informed by the skipper about the plans in advance. Finally, I am grateful to have an opportunity to post my profile in here and I am very looking forward to crewing on your boat and sailing with you all the way with great fun to Tahiti and back home.

Thank you so much…Tarnia

Other Experience and Qualifications:

I grew up in Marblehead MA, my parents and most of my extended family are life long sailors and watermen/women. I have been sailing since before I could remember- My parents have always owned cruising sailboats out of marblehead harbor.

I started racing at approx age 10, first optis, then Lasers. I went on to race Lasers competitively until college. I was a pretty serious racer until I was 21, competing all over the country and world. I went to UC Santa Barbara and was recruited there to sail. I was their B Team womens skipper, racing FJ's. I have taught sailing and racing my whole life, every summer, until I was 21 as well. The summers between my sophmore and junior years of college, I was the captain of a 50ft Benetteau in the BVI for 3 months at a time, and had kids come down and spend 3 weeks at a time to live on the boat with me. We taught the kids everything about the sailing, caring, navigation, and handling of the boat, and took the boat to a different location in the BVI every single night.

I have more limited off-shore experience, but have deliveried boats a few times up to parts of Maine from Boston and have delivered a Bristol 48 between the ABC islands in the Southern Caribbean.

Right now, I am doing foredeck on a J-24 here in Santa Barbara.

I really want to get into more off-shore racing and sailing. Ultimately, I want to be able to easily participate in transatlantic and transpac races and deliveries. I am strong, tough, and really love being on the water. I am just super comfortable on sailboats. I do well in stressful, less-than-ideal situations as well. Plus... I get along with folks of all kinds and like to have a good time regardless of the circumstances. Happy to go either way- race there or deliver back. Thx for reading, Jess 805-708-1078

I am looking for a ride for any offshore distance races (Cabo, Transpac, Tahiti, PAc Cup ect...).

I have raced on several boats including J105s, J120s, 1d35s, Farr 40, RP 50, B40.7, B36.7, B32, Tripp 40, NM 43, Etchells, Soling, Snipe, FJs, Lasers, etc...

I am currently the Jib trimmer on the J105 Wings of which we placed 2nd at the 2006 J105 Nationals.

Have won several High Point and other races in Southern California and have competed in a number of Newport-Ensenada races on several different kinds of boats.

I can do any position on a boat from being a Bow/Mast person on a J120, to calling tactics on a B32, to Navigating and triming the Jib, Main or Kite on the J105 or NM43.

I am a very easy going, but competitive racer who is extremely capable of doing a number of jobs on a boat. By the way I have my own harness and have no problem going up the rig.

I usually live on the pointy end but I know how to turn a winch too (clockwise right?). I'm happy to drive in the bad stuff- no wind, too much wind, cold, lumpy, wet etc. On a beautiful sunny day on a screaming reach, the owner gets to drive and I respect that. I'm 6'1", 43 years old, 185 lbs. and have been doing bow for 25 years. Some recent races include LA to Cabo on the bow of 70' ULDB and the Marblehead to Halifax as bow on a Tripp 60 - First in class. Other experience includes three 8 Metre Worlds, Etchell NA's, KWRW, SORC, and I'm scheduled to do bow on a 60' for the 2008 Newport/Bermuda race.

I've done thousands of delivery miles and enjoy that aspect of sailing almost as much as racing. I've lived and raced in Halifax, NS on the east coast of Canada for the past eight years so I'm used to big air. I currently live in Toronto. I've completed the ISAF Offshore Survival Course and I'm a certified PADI Dive Master. I'm easy going with, what some might call, a twisted sense of humor.

I don't smoke and prefer to race a dry boat. I can fix just about anything on a boat with duct tape and a paperclip and I'd be happy to come out a few days early and help prep the boat. I'm up for the race and possibly the delivery home for a small contribution to the benevolent society for retired bowmen.
