MAINLAND PRE RACE ACTIVITIES

Welcome from Rear Commodore Thomas Garrett

Aloha and thank you for competing in this year's Honolulu race. As part of your planning for the race, we wanted you to be aware that complimentary slips will be available for all competitors from July 6th through July 15th in Rainbow Harbor, adjacent to the "Club Transpac" tent and Gladstone's restaurant in Long Beach. Please contact TPYC board member Ric Sanders at rsanders@heery.com to make your slip reservation. Ric is handling the slip coordination with Joe Pitisi, the Harbormaster for Rainbow Harbor. This Rainbow Harbor and Shoreline Yacht Club form can also be used to provide the necessary information. Information on slip assignments can be found on this page.

Similar to your arrival in Ala Wai Harbor, for each yacht departing from Rainbow Harbor for the starts on July 9th, July 12th, and July 15th, a cannon will fire and each yacht and its skipper and crew will be announced. The boats will be escorted toward the starting area as music fills the air.

Rainbow Harbor Map and Depiction of Club Transpac.

These show the Race Village from Rainbow Harbor, the slips available for the competitors, the design and location of Club Transpac, the location of Gladstone's restaurant and other local eating establishments, and the location of the Long Beach Hyatt across from Race Village where the Aloha dinner will be held. Close by to Rainbow Harbor also is the location of the other home away from home for competitors - Shoreline Yacht Club. Shoreline YC is providing access privileges to their clubhouse to all participants, providing a Welcome to Rainbow Harbor booklet with local information to the boats that will moor there prior to their start, providing the location for the July 7th Safety at Sea seminar, and their members are acting as host families for the out-of-town boats. They are really pulling out the stops to help make the mainland events successful and enjoyable.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR CLUB TRANSPAC

We hope you will join us on July 7th to kick off the send-off festivities prior to the Send-Off Gala dinner party on Sunday, July 8th. On July 7th there will be the opening of the "Club Transpac" tent and the dedication of the Transpac Walk of Fame Race Monuments that will display the 101 year-old history of the Honolulu race from the inaugural event in 1906. These ceremonies will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007, from 1800 to 2000 in Rainbow Harbor. The race monuments will reflect in pictures and in text the race history and the Transpac winners.

Club Transpac will be the '07 Mainland race headquarters and generally will be open each day 1200 to 2100 from July 7th until after the last start on July 15th (see the Schedule of Events for details). Transpac apparel, other logo gear, Transpac posters, race DVDs, etc. will be available for purchase in the Club Transpac tent. Prior to the monument dedication ceremony on July 7th, we will have an opening day ceremony in the tent area that we hope will be attended by all '07 race competitors and Southern California and other yacht club members. After the opening and dedication ceremonies, there will be no-host cocktails and hors d'oeuvres available in Club Transpac to cap off the evening.

Club Transpac is also available for crew send-off parties and dinners. If you are interested in planning something please contact Sara Connor, the director of Gladstone's marketing and special events at events@gladstoneslongbeach.com or at (562) 331-4771.

We hope to see you there and please confirm your attendance with Cathie Nash at transpacificyc@sbcglobal.net and she can be reached at (949) 646-5129.

The event on July 11th will be a salute to the Transpac race as well as the Morning Light campaign of one of the youngest crew to ever sail the race. Tickets for this event can be obtained through The Gardner Holm Agency at 562-495-2472. Their e-mail address is info@longbeachinc.org.

For the Division 1 and Division 2 competitors starting on July 15th, we hope that all yachts on July 13th will be dressed and in Rainbow Harbor for the onstage introduction of all skippers and crew. There will be music and entertainment, food and beverages and a good time for all.

Thank you again for your participation!
