2005 Transpac Safety Inspection General Info.

To: All entrants of 2005 Transpacific Yacht Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu, Hawaii

Congratulations on your recent entry into the most prestigious yacht race in the world - the 2005 Los Angeles, California to Honolulu, Hawaii Transpacific Yacht Race. On this website is a list of inspectors for your convenience. Inspection of the vessel must be completed by Wednesday, July 6, 2005. This will allow ample time to remedy any discrepancies. If your vessel will not be in the Southern California area prior to the July 6, 2005 date, please contact Roby Bessent, Chief Inspector (562) 301-9736 or pac.mar.sur@att.net at your earliest so that we may set up a date for inspection. We will be more than happy to accommodate you.

This is a courtesy inspection and does not relieve the owner/charter of his/her obligation of fulfilling the equipment requirements for a Category I race. Copies of the 2004-05 U.S. Edition of ISAF Special Regulations, governing offshore and oceanic equipment preparation, can be obtained from most marine hardware stores (West Marine, etc.) and from:

U.S. Sailing Association Phone: (401) 683-0800
P.O. Box 1260, 15 Maritime Drive FAX: (401) 683-0840

DO'S AND DONT'S

  • DO Make a timely appointment prior to Wednesday, July 6, 2005 for your inspection.
  • DO Be on time.
  • DO Give your inspector a copy of the Certificate of Inspection form.
  • DO Have all equipment neatly displayed or in its proper location for the inspector.
  • DON'T Failure to have your vessel inspected may be grounds for disqualification and/or penalty.
  • DON'T Be late for your appointment.
  • DON'T Tell the inspector that you will have items of equipment not aboard at the time of the inspection aboard for the race. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

If all items required are not aboard the vessel at the time of the inspection, the inspector may charge a fee for a second visit to your vessel.

It is your responsibility to follow the instructions below regarding Certificate of Inspection forms and Crew Medical Profiles. Both are available for download from this website.

Inspection Forms:

  1. Print out two (2) copies of the 4-page Certificate of Inspection; one you will retain and the second will be presented to your inspector.
  2. Refer to the list of inspectors on this website, locate an inspector in your area and set up a timely appointment. Present him with one (1) copy of the form that he will fill out and return to the chief inspector.

Crew Medical Profiles:

  1. Print out two (2) copies of the Crew Medical Profile form for each crew member aboard your vessel. Have each crew member complete two (2) copies. Keep one copy of each for your files and send the other copies to the chief inspector at the address below.

It is important that you review the information regarding U.S. Coast Guard recalls of SOSpenders PFDs and PROSAR life jacket lights on this website.

Good Luck! Safe sailing is fun sailing - we'll see you at the finish line!

Mahalo,
