42th Biennial Transpacific Yacht Race / Los Angeles to Hawaii Transpacific Yacht Club, Brad Avery, Commodore Max Would Be Proud. Jamie and Jenny Niel's Transpac entry from Australia, a Super 30, has one of the more unusual names in the fleet: The Cone of Silence. "Seemed like a good name after a couple of bottles of red," Jamie said by way of explanation. "I like a silent boat. I encourage everyone on board to shut up unless they have something important about the race to tell us. I reckon that silence focuses me and the crew on enjoying what we are out there to enjoy and enhances the experience. Once they get used to it, my crew loves it, too (or moves to another boat!). The name was partly about that---pulling down a 'Cone of Silence' over social chatter when we go sailing. I always liked that 60s TV show 'Get Smart.' Max used to love 'The Cone of Silence.' It always cracked me up. Also, the boat has the sail number 8699. Maxwell Smart was 86 and his partner was 99."
