2001 Transpacific Yacht Race

Notice of Race Amendments

Amendments to the Transpac Notice of Race appear in Bold. The Notice of Race, which was first issued in November 2000, is attached.

1.0 CLASSES TO RACE (amended)

Aloha Class.This class is open to cruising-type yachts with a Southern California PHRF Offwind Course rating between 144 and -90 and a ULDB factor of less than 1.8. Aloha class yachts may use power winches (this modifies RRS 52.) Such use must be declared in writing at the time of entry. Aloha class yachts using power winches may compete for Aloha class trophies but are not eligible for overall trophies.

2.0 RULES (amended)
2.1 The race will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2001-2004 including US SAILING prescriptions, the International Measurement System (IMS) and IMS regulations for IMS rated boats, except as noted in 3.0 below) the rules of the Transpac 41/52 classes for those boats, Southern California PHRF for boats rated without IMS certificates, and the 2000-2001 Offshore Racing Council (ORC) Special Regulations for Category 1 including US Sailing Perscriptions (except as any of these are changed by the Notice of Race or the Sailing Instructions.)

3.0 CHANGES TO THE CLASS RULES (amended)
3.1 Irrespective of a specific class rule, there is no limitation on the number of spinnakers or staysails carried. Asymmetric spinnakers may be carried without penalty providing their area is no greater than that of the largest rated symmetric spinnaker to be defined as follows. The SL on the asymmetrical spinnaker shall be no larger that the SL of the rated symmetric spinnaker when calculated by the IMS formula of SL = .6 SLU+.4SLE. Neither the SMG nor the SF of the asymmetrical shall be greater than the SMW of the rated symmetric spinnaker. This applies for both IMS and PH rated yachts.

3.2 For IMS boats, the minimum displacement requirement, regulation 202, is waived.

3.3 For IMS boats, Part 3, the Racing Division Accommodation Regulations shall apply with the exception that fabric "soft bins" are allowed in place of rigid bins, lockers, and drawers. (308) and an opaque curtain may be substituted for a rigid head door. (310.)

3.4 For IMS boats, the IMS crew weight limit is waived

7.0 ADVERTISING (amended)
7.1 In accordance with the RRS. Regulation 20 - ISAF Adverting Code, the Transpac Race is an Invitational event open to yachts possessing valid PHRF, IMS, IOR or AMERICAP certificates (NOR 1.1) and as such designates this as a Category C event. Yachts who intend to display advertising in accordance with Category C must so indicate on their entry forms and pay the entry fee for this category. Approved Category C rules are found in Appendix A4 of the Sailing Instructions. Protests for any violation of the ISAF Advertising Code will be heard in compliance with section 20.9 of the Code.

9.0 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - ALOHA CLASS START (amended)
9.1 The Aloha Class start shall on Monday June 25, 2001

13.0 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (amended)

13.6 Irrespective of a specific class rule, halyard locks are permitted but only when capable of reliably releasing from deck.

16.0 TRANSPAC RATING (amended)
16.3 The Transpac Predicted Rating limit is determined by using the IMS and Transpac wind matrix. The Transpac rating of the five fastest yachts which participated in the 1999 race, and in their Transpac configuration is determined by using the 2001 IMS. The Transpac Rating Limit will be 339.165 seconds per mile for the 2001 event, as rated under the 2001 IMS prior to any other credits.
16.4 IMS certificates for Transpac entrants shall be calculated with the IMS "default crew weight."

18.0 PENALTIES (amended)

18.2 In Lieu of disqualification, the jury may impose a penalty for infractions of rules 28.1, 30.1, 31.1 that will result in the yacht finishing one place worse than her actual corrected position. For infractions of all other rules, including the Sailing Instructions and Notice of Race, the jury may penalize a yacht by adding up to three places to her original corrected time position, except: if the infraction caused damage to another yacht which might in any way effect the racing ability of that yacht, the offending yacht shall be disqualified.
